Lecture | Legal AI: Pioneering work at the interface of AI and law (with FAU)

At a time when artificial intelligence (AI) is permeating more and more aspects of our lives, it is essential to understand the legal framework and implications of these technologies. KI Park e.V. and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) have therefore worked hand in hand to create a practice-oriented lecture series that highlights precisely this interface.

Aims of the lecture

The lecture has set itself the task of introducing students to the basics of AI and its legal framework. It is not only about theoretical knowledge, but also about current and future applications of AI in law. The combination of theory and practice optimally prepares students for the challenges in this interdisciplinary field.

Focus on content

Important topics of the lecture include algorithm ethics, data protection and copyright in the context of AI. The course will also focus on the application areas addressed in FAU research, including medicine, manufacturing, and embedded and holistic AI.

Methodology and format

The course is designed for two semesters and is conducted in a mixture of lectures, discussions and practice-oriented projects. Students are awarded 5 ECTS points for successful participation in the lecture. In addition, participants receive a certificate in Legal Tech from KI Park Berlin.

Importance for the students

A special feature of the course is the opportunity for students to develop their own legal tech application under the guidance of the lecturers. This provides invaluable hands-on experience and serves as a springboard for future career opportunities in this emerging field.

Importance for the AI ecosystem

The lecture series is an important building block in the mission of the AI Park and FAU to establish Germany and Europe as top locations for technology and innovation. By combining research, education and practice, the course creates added value for the entire AI ecosystem.

Conclusion and outlook

With the successful conclusion of the first lecture series led by Prof. Sabina Jeschke, an important step has been taken to close the gap between AI and law. Due to its success, the lecture will be continued and registrations for the next series are already open.
